Llanelli Minor Injury Unit consultation | Ymgynghoriad Uned Mân Anafiadau Llanelli
27 Mawrth 2025 | 27 March 2025
Bydd pobl yn gallu rhannu eu barn ar sut mae gwasanaethau yn cael eu darparu yn Uned Mân Anafiadau Ysbyty Tywysog Philip, mewn ymgynghoriad cyhoeddus.
Bydd ymgynghoriad cyhoeddus 12 wythnos yn cael ei gynnal o ddiwedd mis Ebrill neu ddechrau mis Mai, cytunodd Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Hywel Dda mewn cyfarfod Bwrdd heddiw (dydd Iau).
Mae’r Uned Mân Anafiadau, sy’n darparu triniaeth ar gyfer mân anafiadau megis briwiau, ysigiadau a mân losgiadau, wedi bod yn gweithredu gyda newid yn yr oriau agor, a hynny ers mis Tachwedd 2024. Mae hyn wedi golygu mai’r oriau agor yw 12 awr (8am-8pm), yn hytrach na 24/7,
yn bennaf oherwydd pryderon staƯio, ansawdd a diogelwch.
Bydd y Bwrdd Iechyd nawr yn ymgynghori â staff, y gymuned leol a rhanddeiliaid ar bedwar opsiwn arfaethedig ar gyfer dyfodol y gwasanaeth.
Dyma’r opsiynau:
· Opsiwn 1 – Dan arweiniad Meddyg, 12 awr (y model dros dro presennol)
· Opsiwn 2 – Dan arweiniad Meddyg, 14 awr
· Opsiwn 3 – Dan arweiniad Meddyg, model graddol (12 awr i ddechrau, gan gynyddu i 14 awr, yna i 24 awr fel y mae staffio yn caniatáu)
· Opsiwn 4 – Canolfan Gofal Brys (model math Gofal Brys yr Un Diwrnod) 14 awr
Bydd pobl yn cael cyfle i rannu eu barn ar yr opsiynau arfaethedig a’r effeithiau y gallent eu cael, yn ogystal â chynnig opsiynau arall.
Gwnaed y penderfyniad hwn i fynd i ymgynghoriad ffurfiol yn ystod cyfarfod Bwrdd Cyhoeddus heddiw ac mae’n dilyn cyfres o weithdai ymgysylltu â rhanddeiliaid. Mynychwyd y gweithdai hyn gan staff cynrychioliadol, cleifion a grwpiau ymgyrchu.
Bu iddynt ystyried rhestr hwy o 12 opsiwn a’u sgorio, yn seiliedig ar feini prawf megis diogelwch, cynaliadwyedd a ffocws cleifion, gan arwain at bedwar opsiwn ar gyfer ymgynghori.
Mae Mark Henwood, Cyfarwyddwr Meddygol Gweithredol Dros Dro, yn annog y gymuned i gymryd rhan:
“Rydym yn deall pa mor bwysig yw’r gwasanaeth hwn i bobl Llanelli, ac rydym wedi ymrwymo i ddarparu ateb sy’n diwallu anghenion y gymuned tra’n sicrhau gofal diogel o ansawdd uchel. Rydym am gydweithio i wneud y penderfyniad cywir. Bydd eich cyfranogiad yn amhrisiadwy i’n
helpu i wneud y penderfyniad cywir ar gyfer y dyfodol.”
Yn y cyfamser, bydd oriau agor dros dro presennol yn yr Uned Mân Anafiadau, sef 8.00am – 8.00pm, yn parhau. Os ydych chi’n byw yn Llanelli, yn agos at y dref, neu’n ymweld, ac yn cael mân anaf yn ystod y dydd, gallwch barhau i gerdded i mewn i’r Uned Mân Anafiadau yn Ysbyty
Tywysog Philip.
Nid yw’r newidiadau hyn yn effeithio ar Uned Asesu Meddygol Acíwt (AMAU) yr ysbyty. Mae’n dal i ddarparu triniaeth 24 awr y dydd i gleifion meddygol sâl iawn sy’n oedolion, fel y rhai sydd wedi dioddef strôc neu drawiad ar y galon. Rhaid cael mynediad at y gwasanaeth trwy 999, 111 neu atgyfeiriad gan Feddyg Teulu.
Os bydd eich mân anaf yn digwydd rhwng 8.00pm ac 8.00am ac yn methu aros tan y diwrnod wedyn, defnyddiwch:
· gwiriwr symptomau GIG Cymru ar-lein https://111.wales.nhs.uk/selfassessments/
· llinell ffôn 111 GIG Cymru am gyngor (opsiwn 2 ar gyfer cymorth iechyd meddwl)
· mewn argyfwng sy’n bygwth bywyd, p’un a ydych yn oedolyn, yn berson ifanc neu’n blentyn, Ưoniwch 999 bob amser.
Bydd rhagor o wybodaeth am yr ymgynghoriad, gan gynnwys y dyddiad lansio, a lleoliad digwyddiadau cymunedol, yn cael eu cyhoeddi cyn bo hir. Gallwch gael ywybodaeth ddiweddaraf ar ein tudalen Uned Mân Anafiadau: hduhb.nhs.wales/PPHMIU
Bydd diweddariad yn cael ei ddarparu i gyfarfod y Bwrdd Iechyd ym mis Gorffennaf 2025. Ar ôl ystyried yr ymgynghoriad a’i ganfyddiadau’n gydwybodol, bydd y Bwrdd yn ystyried yr holl adborth a thystiolaeth a gasglwyd cyn gwneud penderfyniad terfynol, i’w ddarparu yng
nghyfarfod y Bwrdd ym mis Medi 2025.
Ychwanegodd Mr Henwood: “Mae’r Bwrdd Iechyd wedi ymrwymo i sicrhau bod darpariaeth yn yr
Uned Mân Anafiadau yn y dyfodol yn darparu gofal diogel, cynaliadwy a theg i’r gymuned.”

People will be able to share their views on how services are provided at Prince Philip Hospital’s Minor Injury Unit (MIU), in a public consultation.
A 12-week public consultation will be held from late April or early May, Hywel Dda University Health Board agreed at a Board meeting today (Thursday).
The MIU, which provides treatment for minor injuries such as cuts, sprains and minor burns, has been operating with changed opening hours, since November 2024. This has involved the opening hours being 12-hours (8am-8pm), as opposed to 24/7, primarily due to staffing, quality
and safety concerns.
The Health Board will now consult with staff, the local community and stakeholders on four proposed options for the future of the service.
They are:
· Option 1 – Doctor-led 12 hours (current temporary model)
· Option 2 – Doctor-led 14 hours
· Option 3 – Doctor-led phased (initially 12 hours, increasing to 14 hours, then 24 hours as staffing allows)
· Option 4 – Urgent care centre (Same Day Urgent Care type model) 14 hours
People will have an opportunity to share their views on the proposed options and impacts they may have, as well as propose alternative options.
This decision to go to formal consultation was made during today’s Public Board meeting and follows a series of engagement workshops with stakeholders. Those attending included representative staff, patients and campaign groups.
They considered a longer list of 12 options and scored them, based on criteria such as safety, sustainability, and patient focus, resulting in four options for consultation.
Mark Henwood, Interim Executive Medical Director, encouraged the community to get involved:
“We understand how important this service is to the people of Llanelli, and we are committed to providing a solution that meets the needs of the community while ensuring safe, high-quality care. We want to work together to make the right decision. Your involvement will be invaluable in
helping us make the right decision for the future.”
In the meantime, the current temporary opening hours at the MIU, of 8.00am-8.00pm will continue. If you live in, near, or are visiting Llanelli and have a minor injury in the daytime, you can continue to walk into the Minor Injury Unit at Prince Philip Hospital.
The hospital’s Acute Medical Assessment Unit (AMAU) is unaffected by these changes. It still provides 24 hour a day treatment for very sick adult medical patients, such as those who have suffered a stroke or heart attack. The service must be accessed via 999, 111 or GP referral.
If your minor injury occurs between 8.00pm and 8.00am and cannot wait until the next day, please use:
· the NHS Wales symptom checker online https://111.wales.nhs.uk/selfassessments/
· or call NHS 111 Wales for advice (choose option 2 for mental health support)
· In a life-threatening emergency, whether you are an adult, young person, or for a child, always dial 999.
More information about the consultation, including launch date, and where community events will take place, will be announced shortly. You can keep up-to-date on our MIU page: https://hduhb.nhs.wales/PPHMIU
An update will be provided to the Health Board meeting in July 2025. Following conscientious consideration of the consultation and its findings, the Board will consider all feedback and evidence collected before making a final decision, planned for the Board meeting in September 2025.
Mr Henwood added: “The Health Board is committed to ensuring that future provision at the MIU provides safe, sustainable, and equitable care for the community.”

Background and Next Steps:
An ongoing engagement process started in early February to explore a sustainable long-term solution. A diverse group of stakeholders are working together to review and score several potential options. The group involved in this process includes community representatives, healthcare staff, campaign groups and partner organisations – their shortlisted options will be presented to the Board on 27 March.
The Board will not be deciding which option to take forward during its meeting in March, any final decision will be taken after a series of wider engagements. These will seek the wider communities’ views on the proposed options, as well as give the opportunity to put forward other ideas which they feel that the Board should consider.
The Minor Injury Unit provides care to adults and children over 12-months old with minor injuries such as minor wounds, minor burns or scalds, minor limb injuries, bites and stings, foreign bodies in the ear or nose, and minor eye injuries.
The temporary change to Prince Philip Hospital’s Minor Injury Unit (MIU) opening hours was introduced on 1 November 2024, changing the hours to 8:00am – 8:00pm daily These changes were made to address safety concerns due to a shortage of GPs. and concerns raised by Healthcare Inspectorate Wales.
Minor Injury Unit Clinical Lead, Jon Morris said: “To ensure the safety and confidence of people attending the minor injury unit, we need to able to provide a fit for purpose service during all opening hours.
“The inability to consistently cover the rota, with suitably qualified doctors, particularly during the evenings and overnight, carries risk to our patients and our staff.”
Discussions in the engagement sessions have focussed on the options, recruitment, and safety, as well as concerns about access to care for individuals without a car.
The hospital’s Acute Medical Assessment Unit, which provides emergency care for very sick medical patients, such as those who have suffered a stroke or heart attack, has been unaffected by the change and remains a 24/7 service at Prince Philip Hospital. Patients are brought into this unit directly by the ambulance service, or are referred by their GP, or by the Out-of-Hours service.
The local Out-of-Hours service continues to operate from the Llanelli Hospital and is accessed by calling NHS 111 Wales when your GP surgery is not open (between 6.30pm and 8.00am Monday to Friday, weekends and Bank Holidays). Patients are only seen through arrangement with NHS 111 Wales as this is not a ‘walk-in’ service.
Advice for people in accessing the care they need:
- If you need help with a minor injury between the hours of 8.00am and 8.00pm, people can continue to self-present (walk-in) to the Minor Injury Unit, at Prince Philip Hospital. For further information on how the MIUs can help you – please visit our Minor injuries units webpage (opens in new tab).
- If you have a minor injury outside of these hours, which cannot wait until the next day, or, if you are unwell and unsure what help you might need, please visit the NHS Wales symptom checker on the website (opens in new tab); or call NHS 111 Wales
- If you need mental health advice that is urgent and not an emergency, call 111 (press Option 2) and you will get the best advice and support needed for you.
- You can access your GP, community pharmacy, optometrist (optician) or dentist in the usual way. Out-of-hours, you can contact the Out-of-Hours service by calling NHS 111 Wales.
- In a life-threatening emergency, call 999.
